Turtle Crossing

PLWF is raising awareness during turtle crossing season by installing turtle crossing signs throughout the watershed. These signs remind drivers to slow down and stay alert for turtles on the move, helping protect local wildlife and support healthy aquatic ecosystems. It's a small sign with a big impact—keeping turtles (and their habitats) safe.

PLWF has proudly acquired land within the watershed to create a protected walking path that offers the community a place to explore, enjoy, and connect with the natural landscape. This space not only preserves vital habitat but also serves as an outdoor classroom, inviting visitors to learn directly from the land we’re working to protect.

Portage Lake Watershed Forever acknowledges that the Portage Lake watershed is located on the ancestral and traditional lands of the Anishinaabe peoples, including the Odawa, Ojibwe, and Potawatomi. We honor their enduring connection to this land and water and recognize our shared responsibility to care for and protect these natural resources.
